My Story

My Scentsy story began without me even knowing it. It started like most of you already live. You work, you buy products you love, you enjoy them. I was turned onto Scentsy gradually, I was very skeptical. No flame? Seriously?  Hmm. My Scentsy consultant at the time assured me I would love it so much that she guaranteed to refund everything if I didn't like it. So I took her advice and found the warmer I thought matched my style at the time. I got a few bars that I chose from their descriptions that I thought would be ones I would like to smell. Once I brought the bars and my warmer home I looked around for the perfect place. I moved the jar candle I had on top of my desk (I had a lot of jar candles), plugged it in, broke off two pieces of wax, turned it on.
Within 20 minutes realized this was different. The first thing I thought was the scent was more pure. With my jar candles, you could first smell the burning and then the scent of the wax. With this electric warmer, there was no flame so all you smelled was scent! Okay that was great, and the scent lasted days. Well that was even better. I was going through $25 jar candles every week, that was $100 a month and with this I realized: Savings!  One warmer was $35 ( that’s how much mine was at the time) and the 6 pack of scents I chose was $30, so I was all in for $65. That lasted me a month. Hmm, saved me some money.. Next month I bought another 6 pack of bars $30. Saved more money and my apartment smelled amazing! Essentially I could buy light bulbs and wax forever, with the warmer is covered 100% for a lifetime if the electrical component stops working.  That was the moment I fell in love. I called my friends and said “Hey, want free jar candles, I don't need them anymore”
Once a month I called my Scentsy consultant to get me a 6 pack.  Every single time she dropped off my order said, “You love it so much, you should sell it.”  I said “Oh no, that is what I have you for” and she said “Okay, I will continue to make money off you.”  Then we laughed and this continued over and over again. Two years later I was passed up for a promotion at my job that I wanted.  I was told the reason why was I didn’t understand “profitability.”  Ok, I need to learn profitability, so I asked to learn it.  The person that interviewed me said, “I am looking for someone that knows about that, and it’s not something I can teach you for this job.”  So, okay, I didn't get the job. I complain to whom?  Oh, my best friend the Scentsy consultant.  “Can you believe I was told that…”  Etcetera and so on. Then she said, “Hey do you want to come to a meeting at my Director’s house. It’s just an informal thing we are going to talk about the opportunity to sell Scentsy... Are you interested in listening to her talk?”  I said, “Yes, I would come listen to the opportunity.”  I was thinking she makes money off selling me wax all the time, I love the stuff, and I might be needing a new job so why not. I will just listen.  Little did I know,  that “yes” at the moment, to just go listen to the opportunity actually started a chain reaction.  Yes to listen, yes to join, yes I was worth learning something new, and yes to I wanted a change. Oh, I got the change that first year. A lot of things started changing. I noticed I had a focus I didn't know I had. I loved Scentsy.  I loved it so much, I was selling it and making a profit. I set my own hours, I set what times my parties were, I set when to call my customers back, and I controlled it all. The more parties I did, the more I sold, the more I made… and so on. I learned profitability myself. That promotion came around again by the way, I was offered it out right without me even applying for it. How odd, all I wanted was a “yes” from her that first time, a yes, I believe in you, yes, I can help you, yes, I will teach you, but all I got was a no. Once I had said “yes” to myself, yes to teaching myself, yes, that I will do this! Yes, I am worthy!  I looked at her and said  “No, I have a different focus now” I had said yes to my own opportunity, I didn't need hers anymore.  I had opened another door when she had shut her door on me. I was driving my own life, not wanting someone else's approval, I was happy doing this. I slowly cut my hours back, and adding more time to my life, my business.
I have opened many new doors with that yes I had said to myself, I have started new paths and Scentsy has been there the whole time. supporting me, guiding me, allowing me to do all I want. Scentsy is my business and it allows me the freedom to explore and grow. All because I loved the products, with one click of that first warmers on switch, I had slowly changed my life. Let me know if you want to say yes to your own business. Let me know if you want to give yourself an opportunity instead of waiting for someone else to give it to you!
